Hello and welcome to my blog. I am The secret prisoner and I’d like to tell you a little about myself., although not too much because it wouldn’t be very secret if I did.

So I am a male prisoner at a closed prison in Scotland. I’ve been here for some time already so know the place well and I do have a bit of time to go.  I’m doing this blog for two main reasons. Firstly, it’s a creative outlet for me and secondly I’m quite keen to open this place up to inform people about what goes on behind these walls.

I will be entirely truthful and open, however, I will take steps to anonymise things by changing names and other details as I see fit. I am allowed to write blog articles but I’d rather avoid any extra attention.

I am politically neutral and don’t have any particular agenda other than a basic fairness and humanity. I do like to stick to rules and feel that prisoners should not get any more or less  than the rules allow.

You may come to this blog with preconceptions about prisoners, the legal system, punishment etc I don’t seek to persuade you in any way. Maybe, though, I will inform your views so that you securely hold a view based on reality more than based on tabloid headlines.

Some of you may have lived experience of prisons for a variety of reasons and muych of what I say will resonate. Of course, my experience is only my experience and will inevitably differ to yours.I won’t be sensationalising or adding <i>drama</a> – after all, this isn’t a “documentary” on channel 5!
