Behind closed eyes, peace and calm is real.
A gentle breeze is both heard and felt
like a feather gently stroking my arm.
Tranquility so tangible that it must never end.
But like yesterday and every other day so far
the beginning of the end is announced
with a rumble like distant thunder.
As regular as a clock
metronomically knocking away my composure
the footsteps approach
accompanied by the sickening symphonic sound
of those contemptuous keys
competing with my resolve to remain peaceful.
Desperately trying to deny the truth
of what my ears are telling me.
Time seemingly quickens
only beaten by the increase in my heartrate.
Calmness crushed, peace poisoned
as the door bursts open like a fear-bomb
exploding in my soul.
Another day in prison begins.
